Welcome to our new series throughout December till Christmas Eve. On each day we will find small tips and tricks, features, hidden gems, and more of Dynamics 365 Project Operations.
Hope you find joy in reading and perhaps there will be something new, you weren't aware of yet 🎅🏼
And with the start of the series, we look into hidden Features in Project Operations Task Planning. As most of you already know, Task planning in Project Operations is based on Project for the Web.
But did you know you can enable additional features in Project Operations task planning by adding a Project Plan 3 or Project Plan 5 license?
Critical Path
With adding one of these licenses the user is able to review their project tasks based on the critical path of the project structure. This will be available in the filter section of the timeline view.
But only specific to the user with the additional license - users without won't see this option.
Enabling the critical path will highlight here all the Project tasks connected to the end date of the Project. This includes as well depending work.
Advanced Task Dependencies
Included in the same license package (Project Plan 3 or Project Plan 3) the user will have access to advanced task dependencies. By default, Project Operations is only an option to put in Finish-to-Start dependencies. So connect the Finish Date of a Task to the Start Date of its successor Task.
In the grid planning of your Project plan, you can either go to the details of your Task or simply add the "Depends on" column. Now, with selecting a potential dependent Task, the user sees a little arrow at the end of the pop-out. Here it's possible to select the dependency type.
Based on the selected type the Start / End dates of the tasks are now connected.
As mentioned, the same menu is available via the Project Task details. Accessible via the small "i" symbol on the task or the three dots menu.
Hope you like the start of these new small episodes. I can't wait to explore more with you tomorrow! 😊
